Leaders, activists and members of Scottish faith communities are invited to participate in this free day conference, which offers information about the current humanitarian refugee catastrophe and explores practical ways in which local groups can make an effective difference, in their neighbourhood, across Scotland and supporting crisis places in other parts of the world.

The conference will include input on the experience of refugees, current policy analysis and reflections on faith and spiritually in a time of global crisis. There will be a choice of workshops looking at interfaith projects, human rights, opportunities for volunteering and anticipated policy changes in the coming weeks which faith groups can engage with.

  • What is my faith tradition doing and how can I get involved with them, and with others, to make a practical and meaningful difference?
  • What do I need to know about the current refugee crisis?
  • Are there any refugees in my area, and how can I work with them?
  • What role do the Scottish Government, UK Government and European Union policies have with regard to refugees, and how do I influence this?

The event is aimed at people who want to learn more about the situation and what they can do about it.

We are suggesting that if you come you bring at least one other person from your local organisation/faith group – so together you can take the ideas back from the conference and think about ways in which you might take them forward.

Location

The conference will be held at St Andrew’s and St George’s West Church, 13 George Street, Edinburgh EH2 2PA – close to Edinburgh Bus Station, St Andrew Square tram stop and Edinburgh Waverley train station.
